Professor of Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago- Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Femi Oloyede will be delivering the institution’s 130th Inaugural lecture holding on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the OGD Lecture Theatre on the Ago-Iwoye main campus, beginning from 2 pm.
According to a statement signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar Corporate Affairs, Motunrayo Sowunmi, “Prof Oloyede will deliver paper presentation on the topic, “To live or not to Live: Navigating ethical dilemmas in fetal medicine”, while the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, a distinguished academic and administrator is the Chairman of the occasion.
Dignitaries, academicians, experts in Gynecology and Obstetrics, fetal medicine, scientists, and academicians are expected to grace the inaugural lecture.
Inaugural lecture is an auspicious occasion for the university to acknowledge the appointment and promotion of new full professors, introduce them to the academic community and non-academic community of the university, the whole world, and to provide opportunity for further engagement with the larger community.
The presentation of an inaugural lecture is a significant milestone in the academic career of a full professor and provides a platform to share past researches and introduce new ideas and innovations to a diverse academic and non- academic audience.
Prof Oloyede is devoted to academic research and clinical practice in Fetal Medicine and Genetics as his specialization.
He began his academic and clinical practice career as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist in 2001, and further trained in different top notched academic institutions across the globe, including the prestigious Fetal Medicine Foundation, London, Jesuit centre for minimally invasive surgery, Spain, Dr Zeinali Molecular Laboratory, Iran before obtainng Master of Science and Doctor of pholosophy in Genetics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
Prof Oloyede introduced several fetal medicine procedures and services in Nigeria clinical practice such as the Molecular laboratory diagnosis of Sickle cell disease, and chromosomal aneuploidies, especially Down syndrome; First trimester fetal looscreening programme using nuchal translucency scan, Doppler velocimetry fetal assessment; Invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as selective feticide, disorder of amniotic fluid; biochemical screening using PAPP A, PIGF for aneuploidy and pre-eclampsia.
Prof Oloyede is the author and co-author of several peer-reviewed publications in -indexed international journals, with high impact factors and has supervised numerous undergraduate, postgraduate students
The lecture is expected to attract academics, medical experts, scientists, clergy and royalties.
It will be followed by a private special inaugural lecture luncheon at the Afin Ebumawe of Ago- Iwoye at 3pm.
Reacting to this development, the Rotary community joins in felicitation with the inaugural lecturer, who was a past president of the Rotary club of Ewutuntun, District 9111 and has served in different capacity in club, district and international levels.
Currently, he is the Chair of the Disease Prevention and Treatment Committee Rotary International District 9111, as well as the Lagos State Chairman/ Lead trainer for an ongoing global grant project (tackling malaria & malnutrition in moms & under 5 children).
Guests expected at the luncheon include Dr Tomi Coker, Commissioner for Health Ogun State as the chairman, with HRM Oba AbdulRasaq Adenugba, Ebumawe of Ago - Iwoye as Royal Father of the Day; and Chairman of Alpha Pharmaceutical Ltd, Sir Ike Onyechi.
The event will be graced by the Rotary International President, Rtn Olayinka Babalola as the distinguished guest of honor; the Rotary Districts 9111 and 9112 Governors, Bukola Bakare and Layi Abidoye as Guests of honour; Lord Bishops, Rt Revd. Dr Babatunde F.R. Ogunbanwo, Anglican Bishop of the Ijebu Southwest Diocese; Rt Rev. Dr. Akinwande Godwin Odubena, Anglican Bishop of the Ijebu North Anglican Diocese in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion; professionals and friends of Rotary are expected to attend the occasion.
