Sanni Jamiu's penalty secured all three points for Gateway United in a local derby clash against Stormers FC of Abeokuta in the 2021/2022 NNL week 16 fixture played on Sunday at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
Bendel Insurance are currently topping the table with 34points while Gateway are next with 32points, eight points ahead of third placed Vandrezzer of Lagos who garnered 24 points in Group B1 of the second tier league with six matches to end the season
The Toyin Ayinla's tutored side in its last match, broke the deadlock in the 89th minute courtesy of Sanni Jamiu's penalty after Salifu Haruna was fouled in the box.
After a goalless first half, both teams threw players forward in a pulsating second half, with Oronsaye James nodding straight at Salaudeen Tunde in the 70th minute and Haruna Salifu's low effort narrowly wide off goal.
Stormers also had a chance in the 71st minute when Olalekan Ismail blasted a thunderous shot in the box but Araromi Ibukun tipped over the bar to ensure his side did not concede a goal
