Jos Attack: President Tinubu Assures Residents Of Safety, Says The Deadly Incident Will Not Repeat Itself

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured residents and families of victims of Sunday’s deadly attack in Jos, the Plateau State capital,that such incident would not repeat itself even as he consoled them 

The ugly incident left at least 28 people dead and 22 others injured, assuring them that such an incident will not recur.

Tinubu gave the assurance during his visit to Jos on Thursday, where he interacted with government officials, traditional leaders, and affected families, among others.

“To the victims, there is nothing I can give you, whether in billions of naira, but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” Tinubu said.

Speaking directly to the woman seen holding her dead son in a viral video following the attack, Tinubu said,

“I know your pain; I saw in the video how you held on to your son and felt the agony in your heart. Only God can give you joy and comfort. No amount of money can compensate for your loss. As a government, we will do our best to support and comfort you.”

He said the best solution for Jos is to restore the city to the way it once was, as residents remember and grew up knowing.

Meanwhile the Senate has directed the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to launch a full investigation into the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, which claimed the lives of at least 28 people.

While the lawmakers called for the perpetrators to be apprehended and prosecuted, the upper chamber resolved to send a high-powered delegation, led by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to the affected communities to commiserate with victims and the people of Plateau State.

The resolutions followed a motion moved by Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central) and Senator Dachung Mwadkon (Plateau North), who raised urgent concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Kanam and Jos North Local Government Areas.

Leading the debate, Plang lamented that Plateau State, which was once known as the Home of Peace and Tourism, has experienced a resurgence of violence after years of relative calm.

He cited recent attacks in Kanam Local Government Area earlier in March and the deadly assault in Anguwan Rukuba on March 29, 2026, which occurred as residents went about their activities.

In a related development, students of the University of Jos have been evacuated to the Old Airport Roundabout in Jos, following the closure of the institution amid rising security concerns in the state capital.

Students have begun leaving their hostels, carrying their luggage. Some were seen at the Old Airport Roundabout in Jos, walking in small groups and gathering in clusters as they made their way to their final destinations.
