The newly engaged Ogun TeaCh interns in the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), have been charged to take the job with a sense of responsibility, towards improving teaching and learning in the rural areas.
Chairman of the Commission, Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu gave the charge while addressing the interns who received their Enlistment Letters at the TESCOM Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Sanyaolu stated that the Ogun TeaCh Scheme was aimed at addressing shortages of teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as Technical Colleges in the State, towards increasing the teaching workforce particularly in rural areas for effective service delivery and to boost academic excellence.
The interns were warned against rejecting postings to rural areas, saying TESCOM had concluded arrangements to place the interns where their services are needed in rural communities.
‘’Let me tell you that as interns teachers, you will be posted to rural areas to work and whoever that is not ready to accept this offer should not bother taking the enlistment letter,’’ he emphasised .
He explained that the Commission had screened and gave out enlistment letters to over 700 interns out of the 1000 successful applicants, noting that they would be given permanent appointment after two years.
The TESCOM boss added that over 4000 of them had been engaged since the inception of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
Apostle Sanyaolu, assured that teachers' welfare, capacity building, motivational incentives, among others would be given utmost priority by the commission for improved productivity.
Two of the interns Mr. Nìyà Akinbami and Miss Rachel Adeoye, while speaking on behalf of others, commended Ogun State Government for giving them the opportunity to serve, promising to be diligent in the course of discharging their duties.
