Babcock University inaugurates 55-man Governing Council To Provide Strategic Direction

Babcock University has inaugurated a 55-man new Governing Council to provide strategic direction, policy guidance, and oversight.

The new members of the Governing Council were inaugurated during the orientation organized by the Education directorate of the West African Division of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (WAD) to acquaint them of the university's governance framework, statutory responsibilities, institutional policies, and operational procedures.

Speaking, Chancellor of the university, Professor Bassey Udoh urged the council members “not to disappoint the over 400,000 members of the church that have chosen them”.

Professor Udoh, who is also the president of WAD, outlined the council's roles, including establishing the institution's vision, safeguarding its mission and Adventist identity, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. 

He urged the council members to ensure that all governance decision follow the Adventist Philosophy of education which emphasizes a balanced development of the whole person- physical mental, moral, spiritual and social.

He also stressed that governance decisions should protect spiritual atmosphere on campus, biblical worldview in teaching, character formation, service orientation, and moral discipline among others.

 Council Chairman Dr. Ezekiel Adeleye thanked the chancellor and pledged to work with members to uphold governance standards. 

Earlier, the WAD Education director, Professor Yetunde Alozie explained that the orientation aimed to clarify roles, promote collaboration and prevent role conflict.

Two papers presented by Drs. Richard Sabuin and Lisa Beadslay during the orientation covered Understanding the Adventist University and Academic Governance vs Management.
