Federal Government has stressed the need for Nigerians to always reflect the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, as it declared December 25, 26 and January 1, 2026, as public holidays
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who made the call while announcing the public holidays on behalf of the government through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, says the holidays are to mark Christmas on Thursday, Boxing Day on Friday and the New Year celebrations respectively.
Tunji-Ojo also urged citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity, to use the festive period to pray for peace, security and national progress.
The Minister in the statement, urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and be security-conscious during the celebrations, while wishing them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
