No fewer than 236,000 people in Ogun State have been earmarked for upliftment from poverty through the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP ).
The State Coordinator of the programme, who is also Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, disclosed this during a meeting at the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with the Council of Governor's Liaison Officers, who are critical stakeholders in driving the programme across the 236 wards of the State.
Talabi explained that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, focuses on tackling poverty by boosting grassroots economic activities in all 8,809 wards in Nigeria through mapping out local opportunities, empowering entrepreneurs from 1,000 to 2,000 per ward and fostering self-reliance, aiming for a $1 trillion economy by 2030 with Federal, State, and Local government collaborations.
He noted that it was about time the State took advantage of the initiative to create wealth for its people, as the programme aimed to reduce mult-idimensional poverty and achieve adequate security through improved production methods.
The SSG tasked the GLOs to identify 1000 active persons to enrol as beneficiaries of the programme, cautioning them against favouritism, multiple entries, as the programme was designed for all, irrespective of party affiliations.
The Chairman of the Council of GLOs, Hon. Tola Olutayo assured the State government of their unalloyed commitment to ensuring due diligence in the enrollment of participants for the programme across the 236 wards of the State without prejudice.
