MAPOLY Strengthens Partnership With GIZ To Drive Growth, Equip Engineering Students

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has further strengthened its partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in order to promote institutional growth and enhance the industry-relevant skills of engineering students.

The renewed collaboration was discussed during a meeting between the Polytechnic’s Management and a delegation from GIZ, held at the Rector’s Office.

Explaining the purpose of the visit, the Team Lead, Ms. Rachel Schipper, stated that GIZ was at MAPOLY to assess the institution’s readiness for the implementation of Competency-Based Training (CBT) and to explore areas of alignment with existing academic programmes.

The GIZ delegation included the Head of Component, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); Engr. Josiah Adanu; Chief Stephen Agwu, Senior Skills Advisor on TVET from Abuja; and the Senior Skills Advisor and State Coordinator, GIZ, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu.

Speaking during the meeting, the Rector , Arc. Dr. ’Koye Jolaoso, expressed the Polytechnic’s readiness to deepen its collaboration with GIZ in pursuit of human capital development and improved technical education.

“We are happy to collaborate with you, and we are willing to cooperate to achieve human development for the benefit of mankind. It has been a pleasure working with you,” the Rector was quoted as saying in a statement by the Head, Public Relations & Protocol of the institution, Yemi Ajibola

Following discussions with Management, the Director, Centre for Skill Development, Engr. Dr. Ahmed Olanrewaju Apampa, led the GIZ team to the School of Engineering, where various facilities, equipment, and student projects were inspected.

The inspection covered the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical/Electronics Engineering laboratories, the refrigeration and air-conditioning laboratory, the machine workshop, the welding and fabrication workshop, as well as student projects, including a coconut puller.

GIZ, therefore, expressed optimism about designing projects with clearly defined learning objectives for each training phase, with the delivery mode expected to commence in February 2026.

The Deputy Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; the Acting Registrar, Mr. Funsho Kusimo; and other members of staff were present and warmly welcomed the GIZ delegation to the Polytechnic.
