Yaba College of Technology, Lagos has strongly warned against all forms of indecent dressing and violation of any of its code of conducts as the college matriculated a total of eleven thousand, eight hundred and twenty-eight (11,828) students across various disciplines for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Rector of the institution, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Abdul read the riot act during the 2024/2025 Matriculation Ceremony of the college held at the Dr. Philip Adegbile’s Sports Pavilion on Thursday,
According to him,” the breakdown of applications and admissions shows that in Open Distance Learning (ODFEL), one thousand, two hundred and fifty-nine applied for the programme, (1,259) while one thousand two hundred and fifty-two (1,252) were admitted.
"In B.Sc (Ed) programmes, a total number of five hundred and ninety (590) candidates applied for the programmes, four hundred and thirty-seven (437) candidates were offered admission for B. Sc (Ed) in the School of Technical Education in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka”.
He explained that only four thousand, and sixty-three (4,063) candidates were admitted out of a total number of six thousand, five hundred and twenty-nine (6,529) candidates who applied for Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes while at National Diploma (ND) level, six thousand, and seventy-six (6,076) candidates were admitted out of
thirteen thousand three hundred and sixty-nine (13,369) application received
The Rector revealed that the students were admitted after rigorous screening processes, which included the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB and further evaluations by the College to ensure that only qualified and capable candidates were selected.
“Our college environment is structured to support your holistic development. Our lecturers are seasoned professionals dedicated to mentoring and inspiring you. We encourage open engagement, critical inquiry, and responsible independence in learning”, he changed
On Code of Conduct and Campus Culture, Dr. Abdul declared that the college would not accept violation of any of its regulations, particularly indecent dressing among students
“Let me remind you of some key guidelines that govern life on campus as the college frowned at indecent dressing which is not acceptable. We uphold high standards of discipline, including proper appearance".
"Dress decently and let your appearance reflect your inner values. A minimum of 75% class attendance is required for students to qualify for end-of-semester examinations as regular attendance is non-negotiable”.
He however, charged the students to uphold the values of the great institution in excellence, innovation, inclusivity, integrity, and responsibility also to build, together, a community that can be proud of.
The chairman, governing council of the college, Prof. Funsho Afolabi in his address at the matriculation ceremony noted that the event is not only a moment of celebration, but a pivotal time in the College’s history as the institution is currently attaining a university status which is a bold step that reflects its commitment to national development, advanced research, and international relevance.
The transition, according to him, will provide broader academic and professional opportunities for students and help to position the institution as a world-class institution of higher learning which aligns strongly with the Federal Government’s Presidential Renewed Hope Agenda and places great emphasis on human capital development, technological innovation, and quality education as tools to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
“In a world that is constantly evolving, the future belongs to those who are intentional, resilient, and prepared. Use your time well here. Make use of every resource. Build meaningful relationships. Learn not just for today, but for the lifetime”, he admonished the students
