Ogun State Government has approved the immediate employment of 1000 more teachers from those currently under the OgunTeach Scheme, to reduce deficit of teachers in its primary and secondary schools in the state and enhance teachers to pupils ratio in classrooms
Governor Dapo Abiodun who announced this on Thursday during the 2023 Teachers' Day in Abeokuta, the State capital, also revealed the engagement of fresh 2,000 teachers into the teachers internship programme to further bridge the gap in the teaching service in the state
" I'm approving the immediate employment of 1,000 teachers who have distinguished themselves in Ogun Teach Scheme permanently into the State Teaching Service, to demonstrate our commitment to reducing teachers/students ratio in our classrooms and appreciate the support of teachers in the March 18, 203 governorship poll", he stated
Abiodun who appreciated the leadership of state wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers and that of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) for the support, equally announced a gift of a two-bedroom bungalow for one of the teachers, Akeem Badru for being the first African to win the Best Teacher Cambridge Award
Governor Abiodun rolled -out cash prizes to teachers who distinguished themselves in public schools across the state ranging from N2million for the overall best teacher to a million naira each for best teacher in primary, junior secondary senior seconday school categories
Remo Secondary School, Sagamu was adjudged as best Senior Secondary School while Baptist Boys High school, Abeokuta was adjudged emerged as the best in the Junior Secondary School category
The Governor added that his administration would soon hold education summit where major stakeholders would address issues affecting the sector
Abiodun who reiterated his administration commitment to provision of infrastructure in public primary and secondary schools, disclosed his plan to inaugurate a special committee on rehabilitation of public schools with aim of identifying dilapidated schools across the state and fixing them
