Ogun State House of Assembly has recalled one of its two members , Hon. Solomon Osho who was
recently suspended indefinitely along with erstwhile Deputy Speaker , Dare Kadiri on 13th of September for violation of provisions of sections 14 and 15 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017.
The suspension of Osho representing Remo North State Constituency was lifted, following deliberation on his appeal and subsequent acceptance of his appeal letter which was acknowledged at the previous plenary.
The house on Tuesday had adopted a report of the Whole House presented by the Deputy Speaker, Akeem Balogun in respect of H.R No 131/OG/2022 at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo.
Subsequently, the Majority leader, Yusuf Sheriff moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote.
The report partly reads, “members at the meeting discussed the letter of appeal extensively based on the passionate plea and remorse showed by Hon. Osho as well as tendering apology for whatever he might have done to warrant the suspension, as it was never intentional and without prejudice to the Rights and Privileges of the Hallowed House.
Members observed that going by the previous conducts of the suspended Hon. Member, which has always been with decorum and respect for constituted authority and having promised to also continue to keep same sacred till the end of his tenure as a worthy representative of his people, members agreed that his appeal be graciously considered.
The Committee resolved that the suspension be revoked and Hon. Osho Solomon Oluwaseyi be reinstated with effect from today, Tuesday 4th October, 2022.”
In another development, the Assembly has played host to a delegation from the LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as (Christ Embassy) with an admonition to other interdenominational bodies to emulate the church's humanitarian efforts towards promoting consciousness to national values and respect for the unity in diversity of the Nation.
Oluomo in company of other lawmakers, commended the faith -based domination for preaching love and loyalty in all parts of the nation, saying there was need for continued prayer for the nation to overcome its development challenges.
Earlier in his presentation, the Pastor in Charge of Abeokuta District, Tuoyo Temisan said that the nation was still in the growing phase of democracy, and thus required continuous prayers, especially for its leaders in the three arms of government.
Also, the lawmakers received in audience the State Chapter of the Association of Mobile Money & Bank Agents (AMMBAN) in Nigeria led by its State Chairman, Mr. Shuaib Abdulsamad, with a challenge to them to engage the National Assembly on the regulations of Point of Sales operation, with a view to curbing emerging crimes associated with their operations.
Speaker Oluomo noted that financial regulations which was under the exclusive legislative list, needed the approval of the National Assembly for deliberation and amendment; thus the need to engage necessary stakeholders for the amendment of the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) Act 2020 to capture the peculiarities of the Point of Sales (POS) machine.
Earlier, Shuaib Abdulsamad solicited the support of the Assembly for the enactment of a bill to regulate and control the operations of AMMBAN in the State.
