School Feeding: Ogun Govt Warns Food Vendors Against Compromising Quality

Food Vendors engaged under the Home Grown School Feeding Programme have been given stern warning to desist from compromising quality of food being served to pupils saying anyone caught in such inhuman act will be shown the way out.

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs , Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo who issued the warning in Abeokuta while flagging-off  one-day  train the trainers workshop for food vendors, said government would not tolerate any form of irregularities observed during the previous exercise of the school feeding programme

He tasked the 40 food vendors who participated across the 20 Local Government Areas in the State, at the training session to always do the needful,  to justify efforts of both the Federal and State Government in ensuring successful implementation of Programme in public primary schools

In his welcome remark, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr.Rotimiolu Akinlesi had earlier explained that the essence of the workshop is to  standardize operations of food vendors and ensure pupils enjoy nutritious meals while in schools

According to him, the pupils are the future of the State and right meals must be served to them for healthy growth 

In her speech the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajjah Sadiya Umar Farouq represented by team leader for the programme, Mr. Akin Aleshinloye said that the  training session was designed for over 150,000 food vendors across Nigeria, to Improve on the home grown school feeding programme of Federal government

The minister  added that the training aimed at sustainance of the programme through the participants who will later train other  food vendors in the  20 Local Government Areas engaged for the school feeding initiative

She added that the  programme would ensure increase in enrolment of pupils in public primary schools as well as empower local producers, farmers and food vendors while encouraging parents to allow their children to go to school

In their responses, two of  participants, Mrs Oluwatoyin Adebisi and Mrs Saka Adebisi  from Abeokuta North and Yewa South Local Government respectively commended the Government for the continuous training on the need to standardize the meal giving to the pupils.
