Don't Allow Construction Without Layout Permit-Ogun Physical Planning Commissioner Tells Officers

Ogun State, Zonal Town Planning Officers, (ZTPOs) have been mandated to ensure that members of the public obtain layout permit before undergoing building construction, as part of measures to ensure proper physical planning across the state

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Town planner . Olatunji Odunlami, who disclosed this during an inspection visit to the Zonal Town Planning offices across the State, said the visit was necessary to monitor the progress and wellbeing of the Zonal Officers.

He directed ZTPOs to reach out to their respective zonal community leaders, traditional rulers and other applicants to obtain layout permit before embarking on any building construction.

Odunlami  emphasized  the need for schemes to be used by Zonal Town Planning Officers in approving building plans to regulate land use and curb illegal structures of building in the State.

Speaking at the permanent site of the Ogijo Zonal town planning office, Odunlami appreciated the effort and support of the Ologijo of Ogijo, Oba Kazeem Gbadamosi and other community leaders on the proposed project, advising other community leaders to support the ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda of the present administration.

While admonishing Town Planners in the State to always strive to uphold their professional ethics and ensure they abide by the laws on building construction, Odunlami implored Zonal Town Planning Officers to have appropriate records and up-to-date documented events of their activities.

In his remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunde Olugbewesa, expressed the need for officers to rededicate themselves to duties and curb illegal structures coming up indiscriminately across the State.

Also speaking , the Acting General Manager of Ogun State Planning Permit Authority (OGPDPA), Towplanner. Kolawole Ogun advised the officers to re-strategise, ensure more effective monitoring of development and generate more revenue for the government.

Appreciating the State government on behalf of other Zonal town Planning Officers, the ZTPO Ijebu-Ode Tpl. Olalekan Oduwole said the visit has availed them the privilege to express their heartfelt challenges, as it affects the activities in their zones, pledging that they would be more dedicated to duties
