WAEC Commends Ogun On Zero Tolerance For Examination Malpractice

West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has lauded Ogun State Government for not tolerating any form of examination malpractices among school candidates who sat for the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the State.

The New State Branch Controller of  WAEC,  Mr. Ayobami Suberu, gave the commendation while paying a familiarisation visit to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Controller said part of the steps taken by the State to wage war against examination malpractices include non-registration of external candidates for WASSCE and clamping down on special centres, saying the measures taken by the board which was in tandem with the State government initiatives would help to make the exercise a successful one.

Suberu, solicited more support from the government, especially in the area of organising training for teachers to continually encourage improved performance for students sitting for the examination.

"It is imperative as partners in the administration of WASSCE in the State to come together on a familiarisation visit to discuss on how to continually conduct hitch-free examination during my tenure as the new Controller of WAEC in the State", he said.

Responding, the Commissioner, Prof. Arigbabu lauded the controller and his team for embarking on the visit shortly after assuming office, saying such attitude connotes a high sense of responsibility to assignment.

Prof. Arigbabu stated that the Governor’s approval for the payment of WAEC outstanding owed by his predecessor shows that he is compassionate about the education of the learners in the State, stressing that the government had put in place necessary measures to disallow external candidates to register for SSCE.

"Prince Dapo Abiodun is so passionate about education in Ogun State. We have introduced a lot of initiatives in education such as Learners Identification Number to avoid double registration for WAEC and to tackle the issue of examination malpractices during the exercise ", the Commissioner stated.
