Ogun Compensates Lafenwa Fire Victims, Cautions Against Attack On Its Officials.




Ogun State Government has warned that it would no longer tolerate any form of attack on its officials carrying out their statutory duties, especially those tasked with the responsibilities of saving lives.

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter -Governmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo issued the riot- act on Thursday  during an event held at the Valley View Hall of the Government House, where traders whose goods were destroyed in the 28th of November, 2021 Lafenwa-Abeokuta Market fire disaster were compensated with presentation cheques for their losses 


The Commissioner who expressed government's displeasure over the attack by some miscreants on  fire fighters and their equipment during the fire incident, vowed that any one caught in such act would be arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.

Ogunbanwo who served as Chairman of the State Government Special Committee ,expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for quick release of funds as financial assistance to all victims of the fire incident

The commissioner said the Prince Abiodun's administration had repositioned relevant government's agencies managing fire disaster/incident, charged officers and men of the State Fire Service to be more efficient and effective in the management of fire incidents in the state

According to him,"the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration has approved the construction of new Fire Service Stations in other areas of our state, approved the purchase of new fire-fighting vehicles and modern equipments with the aim of mitigating losses in the event of any fire outbreak"

"We have also embark on training of our fire officials through adoption of world best practices and technology. We are confident that the ongoing massive Infrastructural develoments, across our dear state were carefully designed and built to avert the effect of fire incidents", Ogunbanwo stated

He asked the affected traders to see the compensation as a demonstration of the present administration's commitment to their Welfare

Also speaking with newsmen , the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuape who is a member of the committee was full of praises to the governor for acting promptly on the recommendation of the committee for the release of the compensation to relief the traders

Similarly the President General of the Ogun Markets Women, Alhaja Oluwayemisi Abass also showered encomium on the government , saying the compensation is enough for the traders to restart their businesses in the market

One of the beneficiaries, David Okafor who sells second hand cloths at the market, equally appreciated the financial support on behalf of the traders
