Ogun Govt.Moves To Boost Students Career in ICT

Ogun ok nn Government has taken   steps to harness the career pathways of future leaders in the world of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in line with global best practices.

Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Mr. Dayo Abiodun who noted that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun was digitally ready,  made this known in Abeokuta during a-day workshop for Secondary Schools Principals organised by the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT) in collaboration with an online University, Kibo with the theme, “Fostering STEAM Education, school competence: Tertiary Education Pathway for Ogun State Students”.

He stressed the need for re-oriention and proper  incorporation of Information Technology into the learning curriculum of secondary schools and tertiary institutions, as well as charting a way to guide students in choosing a career that would make them future champions technologically.

The Special Adviser, represented by the Special Assistant, ICT, Mr. Olukunle Akibola noted that IT would soon outshine the traditional way of teaching and learning, saying free internet facilities would be made available in secondary schools, to expose learners to the benefits of Information Technology (. IT).

 Speaking, the Founder of Kibo University, Ope Bukola highlighted four stages through which government could incorporate IT in the learning curriculum by developing communication skills, collaborating with global IT institutions, critical thinking, and creativity, maintaining that getting a job in the future revolves around innovation in Information Technology.

She advised the Principals to build a global learning community, where learners could be technologically inclined, to secure their future in IT.

 Also speaking, President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Ogun State, Dr. (Mrs.) Olubunmi Womiloju saluted the interest of the government in ICT, which would prepare students for the global challenge of job security, assuring of her member’s cooperation to drive home the objective of the workshop.

On her part, the Director, Standard Regulations and Planning, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte said the essence of the workshop was to foster the interest of students in the STEAM field which is Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics.
