Ogun State Government has trained its Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers and departmental M&E representatives on effective budget and project management.
The training is part of efforts to promote professionalism and accountability in the budgeting process
The training, which took place at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was themed “Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation for Effective Project Implementation and Reporting.”
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Quudus Yusuff during the in-house training, said the exercise was organised to address gaps in the understanding and application of the Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) document.
Yusuff, explained that the training would equip officers with the requisite knowledge to develop robust MTSS documents for their respective departments, thereby ensuring a more focused and result-oriented budgeting process.
Delivering a lecture titled ‘From Cultural Assets to Measurable Results: A Practical Framework for Activities, Indicators and Monitoring and Evaluation’, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Baliqis Olorunisola, said the State had continued to strengthen its M&E framework to validate government spending and assess the impact of programmes and projects.
Olorunisola, noted that Monitoring and Evaluation should not be perceived as an aggressive or punitive tool, but rather as a mechanism for identifying strengths, addressing gaps and improving performance.
She stated that effective M&E would provide verifiable data, capable of demonstrating whether an agency had achieved its intended results, stressing that reliable data was essential for informed decision-making and effective resource allocation.
The Director also underscored the importance of interdepartmental collaboration and continuous feedback in improving programmes and achieving measurable outcomes.
She urged officers to look inward and develop concrete activities, initiatives and partnerships capable of translating the Ministry’s vision into tangible results in tourism development and cultural preservation.
Olorunisola, added that such efforts would contribute to positioning Ogun State as a destination of national and international significance in culture and tourism.
Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Olubukola Samuels, commended the Ministry for organising the training, noting that it would go a long way in enhancing the capacity of M&E officers and improving their effectiveness in discharging their responsibilities.
