Management of the Lagos State University has condemned in strong term, an incident in a trending video concerning involving a parent and a student of the University.
Deputy Registrar/Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations of the university, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile who expressed the concern in a statement, however clarified that the incident which involved some students of the University’s College of Medicine (LASUCOM) at Ikeja, occurred at a privately owned hostel outside the University’s campus premises.
The matter according to the statement, was promptly reported to the police by the assaulted student and has since been addressed through appropriate law enforcement authorities.
The further statement reads in part:
"Nevertheless, the University has initiated due disciplinary processes in line with its established rules and regulations"
"The University Management unequivocally condemns this act of violence in the strongest terms. Any form of assault, intimidation, or harassment of students, staff, or visitors, whether within or outside the University premises, is unacceptable and goes against the core values upon which this institution was founded"
"Lagos State University reiterates that all students are expected to be worthy in character and learning, in accordance with the University’s mission to nurture graduates who excel both academically and morally"
"The University also advises students to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid situations that may compromise their safety, and promptly report any concerns to the appropriate authorities_
"Parents are also enjoined to support the University’s mission by engaging constructively, respecting institutional boundaries, and encouraging their wards to uphold discipline and integrity"
"LASU remains committed to safeguarding the well-being, safety, and academic success of every student, and will continue to provide a secure and conducive learning environment", the statement concluded
