How Nigeria's League Champions, Edo Queens Won WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title

Nigeria's Edo Queens on Saturday night emerged winners of the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title after producing a dramatic late comeback against Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in a final played in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso

The Nigerian champions came twice from behind to force a 2-2 all draw in regulation time before keeping their composure in the decisive penalty shootout, where they prevailed 4-1 to lift the regional trophy.

The victory also secured Edo Queens a place in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

Ampem Darkoa made a blistering start to the final, taking the lead just two minutes after kick-off through Beline Nyarkoh.

Edo Queens responded almost immediately, with Doosuur Anastasia Atume restoring parity two minutes later to bring the Nigerian side level.

The 1-1 scoreline remained intact for much of the encounter before Ampem Darkoa regained the advantage in the 74th minute, with Nyarkoh scoring her second goal of the night.

With the Ghanaian champions appearing set to claim the trophy, Edo Queens launched a late fightback and were rewarded deep into stoppage time.

Oluebube Umejiaku struck in the 94th minute to level the scores at 2-2 and force the contest into a penalty shootout.

Edo Queens then showed greater composure from the spot, converting four of their penalties while Ampem Darkoa managed only one
