Babcock University’s College of Postgraduate Studies has charged its newly admitted students to be fully prepared for intensive academic work from the start of the semester until the Christmas break.
Provost of the College, Professor Yacob Haliso, accompanied by his deputies, Professor Emmanuel Ajike and Dr. Sunday Audu, gave the charge during the college’s orientation programme organized to provide vital information for seamless registration and a successful academic journey.
“From the day of orientation until you go for Christmas break you will have intensive classes with intentional, honest, Christian, well-friendly, godly lecturers, without intimidation,” he said.
Babcock University according to him, is not only a university with a difference but also a premier private university where transparency and academic equality are supreme.
He described the campus as one of peace, tranquility, transparency and academic equality.
“So I want to welcome you to a campus of peace, a campus of tranquility, a campus of transparency, a campus of academic equality, no discriminatory university. Whether you are a Muslim, whether you are a non-Seventh-day Adventist, whatever you are, you are made in the image of only one God, and we treat you as such,” he added.
He also congratulated all international students and assured them that a time would be set aside for interaction with them.
Also speaking, College Secretary, Dr. Muyiwa Ajayi, reminded the students that Babcock University, as a faith-based institution, is guided by rules and regulations.
“In PG School, we register every semester and fees are paid semesterly. Attendance is mandatory and students are expected to be seated 10 minutes before lecture. Besides, they must have 75 percent attendance in order to sit for exams,” he said.
University Pastor, Dr. Opeyemi Oladosu, prayed for the students and reminded them that God is the source of all knowledge.
He read from Proverbs 3:5-6, James 1:5, Isaiah 41:16, Philippians 4:19 and Psalm 121:7-8, and urged them to claim the promises in those scriptures.
PG Coordinators, including Dr. Olufunso Akinboye of the Agriculture Department and Dr. Charles Ogboi of the Finance Department, also assured the students that they were in good hands and in a good place to learn.
