Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged as one of the winners of the *2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Award* in the Public Sector Category
The award is in recognition of its outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability, urban greening, and climate action.
The award was presented on *Tuesday, 14th July 2026, during the 2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Day celebration* held at EKO AMORE, Freedom Way, Lekki, marking the official commencement of the state's 2026 tree planting season.
The State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab who presented the award,
commended the award recipients for their contributions to environmental conservation and the collective effort towards building a greener and more sustainable Lagos.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu , who chaired the event, was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin
The award highlights LASU's sustained commitment to environmental stewardship through strategic tree planting initiatives, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable campus development.
It further reinforces the University's position as a leading institution championing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly *SDG 13 (Climate Action)* and *SDG 15 (Life on Land)*.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin , received the award on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello
Also present at the event was the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami
The recognition further affirms LASU's unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices and supporting the Lagos State Government's vision of a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future.
Recall that LASU has won the _UI GreenMetric World University Rankings_ in environmental sustainability as the
Best University in West Africa for the last four years (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025).
