Management of the Lagos State University has received a donation of 110 textbooks and ten whiteboards from an alumnus, Dr Wasiu Oluwasegun Kehinde to support teaching and research in the institution.
Dr Kehinde's donation comprised recent textbooks in strategic management, entrepreneurship, organisational behaviour, managerial economics, production management, business law, company law, human resources, marketing, consumer behaviour, accounting, business statistics and business mathematics, among other fields.
The items were presented to the management at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room on the sixth floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on the Ojo.main campus of LASU
The textbooks were donated to the Faculty of Management Sciences Library, while the whiteboards were donated to the Department of Business Administration, from which the donor graduated.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr Kehinde said LASU laid the solid foundation for his academic and professional journey, noting that he obtained both his first and second degrees from the University and also had the privilege of lecturing within its walls.
He described the institution as a great citadel of learning that had instilled in him the values of discipline, resilience and excellence.
He further explained that the TETFund scholarship he received from the University strengthened his resolve to contribute meaningfully to scholarship and society.
Dr Kehinde, who was accompanied by his friend, Mr Olumide Ajenifuja, said the donation was his modest way of giving back to the institution that nurtured him.
Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the University Librarian, Dr Omawumi Makinde, commended Dr Kehinde for his generosity and commitment to the growth of the University.
She noted that the donation would enrich the resources available at the Faculty of Management Sciences Library and improve the teaching environment within the Department of Business Administration.
Dr Makinde added that the University deeply appreciated the gesture and encouraged other alumni to emulate Dr Kehinde’s example by supporting their alma mater.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor's Office, Dr Lateef Shekoni, expressed profound appreciation to Dr Kehinde for remembering the University and making a meaningful contribution towards its advancement.
He stated that the donation reflected the enduring bond between LASU and its alumni and assured the donor that the materials would be put to good use for the benefit of students and staff.
Among those in attendance at the event were the representative of the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Tajudeen Olumoko; the Deputy Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami; and other members of staff from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and the Centre for Information and Public Relations.
