Pathfinder, NCS Launch Cancer Awareness Campaign In Ogun, Call For Regular Screening, Early Treatment




Pathfinder International in collaboration with the Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS) Ogun State Branch, and other Non-Governmental Organizations has emphasized the importance of regular cancer screening for early detection and treatment. 

The organizations, in a South-West Zonal Cancer Mega Rally in Abeokuta held to mark the 2026 World Cancer Day highlighted the need for awareness and proactive measures against cancer.

Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of Pathfinder International,
Mr. Emah Udeme, identified awareness as  key to eradicating cancer, saying the support of everyone in the society would information about the the disease spread fast. 

 "This rally is crucial in disseminating information on why people should undergo screening to determine their status," he said.

 Udeme stated that free, safe, and effective Human Pappiloma VIirus (HPV) vaccination is available in public health facilities for teenage girls of age nine, to protecting them against cervical cancer in future. 

On his part, the State Secretary of NCS,
Dr. Bolaji Salako, identified breast, cervical, and prostate cancer as the most common types in Nigeria, reaffirming the organization's commitment to reducing cancer-related deaths.

One of the residents in his response, 
the Chief Executive Officer, WISE FM 87.9, Alhaji Isiak Kokumo, commemded the organization for creating awareness about the disease, enjoining the organizers to make enlightenment about cancer and other ailments a recurrent effort. 

The rally educated market traders, vendors, and passersby on cancer types, causes, prevention, and treatment options, emphasizing the importance of proactive health measures.
