The newly inaugurated fifth Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, has vowed that his administration would not tolerate civility, indiscipline, and disregard for due process in the running of the university just as he unveiled various reform policies to further strength the instruction
Prof.Ogunwole who was speaking during his inauguration ceremony held at the university, decried declining civility, indiscipline, and disregard for due process which had at times overshadowed the university’s achievements, saying such would not be allowed to happen under his watch as Vice-Chancellor
The new Vice-Chancellor who formally assumed office on February 11, 2026, announced a sweeping reform agenda anchored on cultural transformation, academic repositioning, and a 25-year strategic development framework designed to reposition the institution for global competitiveness
He outlined three major reform priorities:to include transforming the value-set and culture of the university community, restructuring academic programmes and delivery modes to produce well-rounded graduates, and redesigning FUOYE’s business model to embrace digitalisation and a more agile collegiate system.
Professor Ogunwole declared that his administration had entered into a covenant with the institution built on strategic pillars that would redefine governance, research excellence, community engagement, infrastructural expansion, and institutional sustainability.
He acknowledged the institutional heritage he inherited, paying tribute to his immediate predecessor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and former Vice-Chancellors Professors Kayode Soremekun, Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, and Ositadimma Chinedu Nebo, noting that their collective efforts laid the foundation upon which the university now stands.
The new Vice-Chancellor observed that since its establishment in 2011, FUOYE had made remarkable progress in entrepreneurial education, technology integration, and impactful research, but stressed that the university must now deliberately transition into a fully technology-driven and globally visible research institution.
According to him, the university has reached a critical inflection point that demands urgent and comprehensive reforms addressing not only structures and systems but also institutional culture, attitudes, and governance processes.

Professor Ogunwole disclosed that the Governing Council had approved a 25-year Strategic Plan spanning 2026 to 2050, structured into five-year cycles, which would guide policy direction, governance alignment, and risk management architecture for sustained institutional growth.
As part of his covenant with the university, he announced plans for a deliberate cultural shift towards accountability, discipline, teamwork, and innovation, alongside a strategic repositioning to achieve world-class research university status.
He further revealed plans to establish a Directorate of Community Engagement and Trade Union Affairs to strengthen relationships with host communities and staff unions, while implementing a structured Corporate Social Responsibility framework to foster mutual trust and stability.
On financial sustainability, the Vice-Chancellor stated that his administration would diversify the university’s Internally Generated Revenue base through a Local Economic Development-driven strategy, large-scale agricultural ventures, and the proposed FUOYE Nutraceuticals Initiative aimed at commercialising research outputs.
He also pledged massive infrastructural development, digitalisation of operations, enhanced governance efficiency powered by Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and expanded entrepreneurial and sporting opportunities to better prepare students for global relevance.

He expressed confidence that with collective commitment and disciplined cooperation, FUOYE would emerge as a future-ready, globally recognised centre of excellence in education, research, technology, and innovation.
