The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has cautioned prospective candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME, against committing registration infractions or violating the attestation signed during registration.
The Board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who gave the warning on the third week of the ongoing registration for the 2026 UTME which commenced on January 26, said any violator caught may be barred from writing the examination for the next three years
Oloyede emphasised the seriousness of registration offences while speaking with media executives penultimate week, as contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on its website on Monday.
“Registration infraction is a serious offence, noting that candidates may be barred from sitting the UTME for up to three years", he stated
In addition, names of defaulters may be published by the Board in the national dailies as well as circulated to other public examination bodies.”
The Registrar further disclosed that defaulters could also be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, or the Nigerian Police for prosecution.
Speaking on the attestation signed by candidates during registration, the Registrar said the declaration requires candidates to provide true and accurate information in their applications and supporting documents.
Prof. Oloyede maintained that any
attempt to falsify data would attract appropriate sanctions.
“The attestation clause, now an integral part of the application documents, has been incorporated into the registration process due to lessons learned from previous legal battles with candidates,” Oloyede explained
He also highlighted that the attestation serves as a formal verification process, confirming the authenticity of academic credentials and all information submitted during registration, helping to prevent fraud
The Registrar urged candidates to avoid providing fictitious information, warning that such actions could jeopardise their chances of gaining tertiary education.
