Craneburg Construction Company, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the 69km Abeokuta- Papalanto- Ado-Odo/ Ota Road has apologized for the traffic situation along the Toll Gate, Itori- Papalanto portions which was said to have been caused by persistent rainfall.
The Area Manager, Craneburg, Mr. Nicholas Mfarrej, gave the apology during an interface with the State House of Assembly members led by the Speaker, Right Honourable.Oludaisi Elemide, represented by his deputy, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.
He said that perennial rainfall had slowed down the progress and damaged some portions of the road; which were being reconstructed, assuring the lawmakers that the company remained committed to global standard in road construction; while emphasising the same global construction standards across all its projects and promised improved performance as the rains subside.
He appealed for patience from the lawmakers and citizens, saying that the traffic gridlock experienced in some portions had fizzled out; he added as the dry season sets in, the pace and quality of work would be greatly improved with completion date of the contract set for end of next year.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said that the contractor had the directive to make both lanes motorable; while taking responsibility for the recent grid lock; he promised a more effective monitoring of the project going forward.
The meeting resolved that Craneburg should accelerate work on the project, ensure strict adherence to standards, and that the Ministry of Works would be re-invited to provide updates on the road and other ongoing projects across the State.
The lawmakers also directed the State Ministry of Works to immediately ensure a more effective supervision of the road project to prevent further traffic gridlock and ensure strict compliance to contract specifications.
