Environmental Degradation :Ogun Assembly Visits Affected Communities In Ifo

Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, led by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya on Tuesday visited the communities in Akute, Baale, Alausa and Oke-Aro axis in Ifo 2 State Constituency, as part of measures being taken to address the environmental degradation caused by the impact of the Lagos State Government Water Pipeline Project

The visit followed earlier meetings with concerned stakeholders including the Lagos Water Corporation, the project contractor -Salini Nigeria Limited and the representatives of residents of the affected communities.

The Committee Chairman, in company of his co-lawmakers including Honourables Folawewo Salami, Samsideen Lawal and Dickson Awolaja, also took time off to interface with the Baale Akinosi Area Community Development Council over the impact of the Lagos State Government water pipeline project affecting the residents; expressing concern over the hazards created by the construction.

He called for immediate measures to address the situation, stressing that the Assembly would not hesitate to take decisive action should the situation persist without intervention.

He noted that the Committee would soon schedule another stakeholders meeting to arrive at a resolution on the lasting solution to the challenge.

In his remarks, the Community Development Council Chairman in the area, Rev. Joshua Adegbola corroborated that the disruptions caused by the water pipeline project had distorted natural water flow, resulting in flooding and worsening erosion within the affected communities.
