The Lagos State University International School (LASUIS) held its 6th Valedictory Service and End-of-Session Party recently at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, celebrating its graduating class of 92 students with colour, pride, and a strong message of unity through diversity.
The ceremony featured inspiring speeches, music and dance performances, awards, and the formal handover of leadership to new student prefects.
It also marked the send-off of Mr Abiodun Odumbo, the pioneer principal, who was honoured for his nine years of meritorious service.
In her address, Chairperson of the LASUIS Board, Professor Ayodeji Badejo, described the moment as “a culmination of years of learning, character building, and community strength.”
Badejo reflecting on the theme, “United We Thrive: Celebrating Diversity and Strength for a Brighter Future Generation,” he said that the Unity being celebrated today in the country according to him, is not accidental; it is intentional, and it is powerful.”
She urged graduates to “carry the LASUIS torch with pride,” reminding them that “greatness comes not from being the same, but from uniting purposefully in difference.”
Acting Principal, Dr Fasasi Muyideen Kola traced the school's journey from its 2016 inception, beginning with just 46 students and 16 staff, to a thriving institution of academic excellence with nearly 900 students.
He credited former Principal, Mr Taiwo Odumbo, for laying the foundation, which led to stellar results. According to him, LASUIS has recorded *“100% success”* in WAEC, BECE, and NECO since 2019. He added that despite national challenges in 2025, all graduating students scored between 219 and 350 in UTME.
Dr Fasasi celebrated past and present students, citing the pioneer Head Girl, Miss Ogunsanmi Sophie Olabimpe, who is “currently preparing to defend her PhD thesis in the United States.” He affirmed the school’s zero tolerance for misconduct, stating, “We reward good conduct, but indolence, disobedience, and unruly behaviour are not tolerated.”
The graduation lecture, delivered by Mrs Olubusola Abidakun, MCIPM, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training, powerfully framed unity in diversity as the defining trait of the Class of 2025.
She recalled how students overcame pandemic-era challenges by helping one another, saying, “diversity in circumstances, when met with unity in purpose, creates resilience that no individual could achieve alone.”
“In diversity there is beauty and there is strength”, and Mahatma Gandhi, “Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilisation”, Maya Angelou stated
She urged graduates to be “bridge builders” in a divided world.
The ceremony also featured award presentations for academic and character excellence. Mr Olaoye Oyeyemi, Chemistry teacher, stole the show as he was named both Best Science Teacher and Overall Best Staff. Students received prizes in categories such as Best Dressed, Best Behaved, and Best Students from JSS1 to SS3.
In attendance were members of the LASUIS Board, parents, teachers, and students, who filled the expansive auditorium in celebration of a cohort that has turned difference into strength and unity into achievement.
