The Senate of Lagos State University, at its meeting held on Monday, 11th August 2025*, approved the resumption of academic and social activities in the University with effect from this Wednesday, 13th August 2025.
The resumption follows the decision of the striking academic and non-academic staff under the aegis of Joint Action Committee (JAC) to call off their
two weeks old industrial action on Tuesday, 12th August 2025, and resume work on Wednesday, 13th August 2025,* after a productive meeting with the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, on Thursday, 7th August 2025.
Deputy Registrar/Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations of the university, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile who made this known in a statement obtained by Edu-biznews on Monday, explained that the LASU Senate took the decision after due consideration of the updates received from the Vice-Chancellor at the meeting
The Senate according to the statement resolved that all academic and social activities should resume across the University on Wednesday, 13th August 2025 and that students should move into their hostels on all University campuses in Ojo, Ikeja and Epe beginning from the same day
The Senate also directed that the 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations, previously suspended, should commence on Monday, 18th August 2025 while advising students to return promptly and prepare adequately for the examinations.
It will be recalled that Senate, at its virtual meeting held on Saturday, 2nd August 2025, suspended all academic and social activities following the declaration of industrial action by the Joint Action Committee of Staff Unions on Thursday, 31st July 2025 over non- payment of the 25/35 percent salary increase for 23 months by the Lagos State Government
Both the State Government and leadership of the workers' unions later agreed on payment of 12 months out of the outstanding arrears of the salary increase
