2025 BAL: Veteran Coach, Alabi Adelanwa Tips Rivers Hoopers To Reach Final In Pretoria




Veteran former National Basketball Coach, Chief Alabi Adelanwa has tipped the reigning Nigerian League Champions, Rivers Hoopers of Port-Harcourt to reach the final of the 2025 Basketball Africa League BAL play-off slated for June in Pretoria, South Africa 

The Hoopers had finished as third best team in the Africa's elite clubs competition in the last edition held in 2024, after outplaying Cape Town Tigers of South Africa 80-57 points at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda 

But Iconic Adelanwa who had produced top basketballers and the likes of NBA legends , Akeem Olajuwon and Olumide Oyedeji, a former captain of D'Tigers in an exclusive chat recently with Edu-Biznews at his country home in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, expressed confidence that the Hoopers have what it takes as a team to get to the final of this year's BAL play-off in Pretoria ,South Africa,  considering the quality of technical crew and players couple with the support of the Rivers State Government and Nigeria Basketball Federation 

Chief Adelanwa was full of appreciation for Hoopers who recorded back to back win against Moroccan side, FUS- de- Rabat , 88-82 and 79-71 points in Rabat, Morocco to qualify for the play-off behind Al Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt in the Kalahari Conference of BAL held in last morning, April 

The Baba-Oba of Owu Kingdom described Hoopers as the most stable Basketball Club in the Nigeria's domestic league, saying the team will perform better than what did in the last edition of the Continental competition 

He also commended President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Musa Kida and his vice, Babs Ogunade for providing conducive atmosphere for the impressive outings of both D'Tigers and D'Tigress in the FIBA  Afro-Basket qualifiers  and development of basketball in the country
