Prof.Olufemi Idowu Becomes 10th Provost Of LASU's College Of Medicine





Professor Olufemi Idowu has emerged as new Provost of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, (LASUCOM)

Currently Deputy Provost, Prof. Idowu becomes the 10th Provost of the medical school after his emergence in an election conducted for the exalted position on Tuesday, inside Medical Sciences Auditorium on the college campus, where he polled 108 votes to  defeat fellow contestant, Professor Mobolaji Oludara, a former Acting Provost of the college who scored just 21 votes

Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, LASU, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile who made this known in a statement made available to Edu-Biznews, said that the exercise witnessed an impressive turnout of voters which included members of the college’s Academic Staff Assembly, with a total of 129 votes recorded during the electoral process 

The process according to the statement, was overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Registrar of the University, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu who was  represented by the College Secretary, Mr O.A. Oyebanjo

Observers at the poll, lauded the exercise by for its transparency and adherence to electoral standard

The newly elected Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu, is expected to assume office on Thursday, 26th December 2024, following the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, on Wednesday, 25th December 2024 

Prof. Olufemi Idowu in his response after the election, expressed gratitude to the college community and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusive leadership. 

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated Prof. Idowu on his election, wishing him well in his tenure as Provost of LASUCOM
