Eagles Return To CHAN, Beat Ghana's Black Galaxies 3-1 In Uyo



Nigeria''s Super Eagles B side have returned to the Championship of African Nations (CHAN)  in a grand style, after beating arch-rivals, Black Galaxies of Ghana 3-1 in a return leg of qualifier played on Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital 

The Austin Eguavoen tutored side demonstrated their seriousness within  the first 25 minutes of the crucial encounter scoring three goals within the interval of three minutes each at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium 

Remo Stars' Ismaila Sodiq opened scoring in the 19th minute of the match before team mate and captain, Nduka Junior grabbed the second goal in the 22nd minute while Enugu Rangers' Isaac Saviour extended the lead in the 25 th minute after capitalizing on the defensive blunder within the Ghanaian 18 yards biox.

Amankona however reduced  the tally in the 73rd minute with the consolatory goal for the Ghanaian side in the remaining half of the tie 

Both sides had earlier ended the first leg of the final qualifying round  held at the Accra Stadium in Ghana on Thursdays in a goal less draw

Nigeria qualified on a 3-1 aggregate scores  for a place in the next CHAN to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda between February 1 and 28 , 2025 

It will recalled that Ghana's Black Galaxies two years ago stopped the Eagles B side from participating in CHAN competition designed by Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) strictly for players playing in the domestic leagues 

Nigeria had won silver and bronze medals in two of the previous editions of CHAN competitions but missed out in the last edition held in Algeria two years ago 

The Super Eagles B side are currently being handled by Care-taker technical crew led by Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen being assisted by the duo of Coach Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars and Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu of Enugu Rangers who were selected based on their respective performances in the last season of the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL, finishing as champions and runners up
