President Bola Tinubu had on April 3 signed the National Students Loan Amendment bill into law.

Tinubu initially signed the student loan bill into law back in June 2023, to offer financial assistance to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.

This signing came after separate considerations from the two chambers of the National Assembly committees on tertiary institutions and TETFund.

President Tinubu who was full of appreciation for the joint effort of the two chambers of the National Assembly in ensuring speedy passage of the amended act ,expressed confidence that his signing of the bill into law would provide opportunity for every student to have equal access to qualitative tertiary education

Mr. Jim Ovia was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of NELFUND by the president on April 26,  after the appointment of  Akintunde Sawyerr as  the Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Frederick Oluwafemi Akinfala and Mr. Mustapha Iyal as  the Executive Director, Finance & Administration and Executive Director, Operations respectively to pave way for the formal take off of the agency's activities
