A community in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Ifesowapo Community Development Association is pleading with the local council to urgently fix its major access road connecting the ongoing expanded Olabisi Onabanjo way via Ogun State Television on the outskirts of Abeokuta, the State capital
Baale of the community, Chief Abdul-Rasaki Abati leading executive committee members of its CDA had written a letter of appeal dated 11th of February, 2024 to the Office of Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Dr.(Hon) Folasade Adeyemo to assist in fixing the road to prevent possible flood which according to them , may destroy and submerge houses within the community
The completely dilapidated road linking nine communities to the major Olabisi Onabanjo way is a now a serious threats to property owners in the community going by their recent experiences of flood on the 18th and 21st of February, 2024 caused by the drainage channels being constructed on both sides of the ongoing expanded major road
"We envisage the danger it could cause our community, hence we quickly raised and spent funds upward of two and half million naira, we also hired an excavator to help channel the flood from their exit to a flowing river within the community "
According to them, the road has been a nightmare for all residents in the area as there was no vehicular movement during the flooding
They added that for several days, their children could not go to school after the rains had stopped as a result of the flood
"We indeed tried our best but our resources were limited and could not get the job done, if nothing is done quickly, our community may be submerged and inaccessible" the community pleaded for assistance in ensuring reconstruction of the road
They reminded government in the letter of the support given by the community in ensuring that the ruling party (All Progressive Congress) won convincly at polling unit 34 in ward 7 of Odeda Local Government Area during the last 2023 general election
