Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, (TRACE), Ijebu-Ode Divisional Command, in collaboration with Ogun State Bus Mass Transit (BMT), has erected some road traffic signposts to discourage motorists from driving against the traffic.
The TRACE Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Commander 'Seni Ogunyemi, during the erection of the traffic signposts with the caption, "Avoid Driving Against Traffic, One-way Kills", along Ososa-Odogbolu axis of Benin-Sagamu Expressway, said the act was to further enlighten the motorists and save lives.
Ogunyemi, represented by the TRACE Area Commander for Ogun East, comprising Ijebu-Ode and its environs, Commander Olubori Sonde, explained that there was a need to prevent avoidable road crashes, saying motorists must obey highway laws and avoid one-way driving.
"The placement of these traffic warning signposts became necessary given incessant road crashes due to one-way driving by some dangerous drivers on the axis. We must be our brother’s keeper; drive safely by considering the pedestrians who are unaware of vehicular movement from behind", he said.
On his part, the General Manager, Prizebag Limited, operator of Ogun Bus Mass Transit, Mr. Adewale Odusanya, said the transport company decided to join hands with TRACE, to enlighten operators in the sector on dangers inherent in one-way driving, enjoined motorists to desist from such recalcitrant behaviour, revealing that many projects were in the pipeline as their corporate social responsibility, to support government and save lives on the highways.
One of the residents of Ijebu-Ode, Mr. Seyi Salami, commended the efforts of TRACE and the operator of Ogun Bus Mass Transit, for the new development of road traffic management on the axis.
Also on ground were the Divisional Commander, Ijebu-Ode, Cdr. Opeoluwa Adekoya and the Head of Operations, Officer Muyiwa Oyesanya.
