Ogun State Government has stressed the need for its officers in the Ministry of Forestry, especially those in the forest reserves to always to uphold the global best practices in forestry management, to enable them to carry out their responsibility of harnessing the natural resources in the reserves
The State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun gave the charge during the opening ceremony of a three-day retreat, organised by the Ministry, in collaboration with Abemgo & Associates, for the management staff and heads of division of the Ministry, at Ijebu -Ode, explaining that the retreat would provide participants with unique opportunity to reflect on rules and regulations guiding their jobs as foresters, exchange ideas and deepen their understanding on forest management principles.
He noted that though government was committed to the preservation of natural vegetation, as it protects the depletion of the ozone layer, the Ministry would not be deterred from boosting the revenue by blocking leakages for developmental projects across the state.
The Commissioner enjoined participants to actively contribute and explore new avenues for improvement and innovation, advising them to report any form of infraction in their area of operations to the appropriate quarters.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Timothy Olatunji, said the retreat would enable officers to reflect on global best practices, identify areas of improvement and collectively brainstorm on innovative solutions, while drawing on diverse perspectives and expertise within the groups.
Contributing, the Senior Consultant, Abemgo & Associates, said seasoned professionals would impact knowledge to make participants aware of their responsibility as civil servants and the need to have team spirit.
Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mrs. Asake Badejo and Mr. Olumuyiwa Adeogun, appreciated the leadership of the Ministry for organising the retreat, assuring that the knowledge gained would be utilised to move the ministry forward.
Speaking during an interview with journalists, the Project Manager Ogun State Forestry Plantation Project, Area J4 Forest Reserve, Mr. Babatunde Adebosin, revealed that the retreat would have a multiplying effect on the professional outlook of the Ministry and make participants think outside the box.
The retreat had in attendance the State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, Directors in the Ministry and some retired management staff.
