Ogun Govt Trains Subject Teachers,Others To Enhance Teaching Methodology In Classrooms

 

No fewer than  150 Chairmen and Secretaries of Subject Teachers' Associations and Chief Examiners in Ogun State have been trained on Test Construction and Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, as part of strategic moves to achieve 21st-century teaching methodology in the education system 

 The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof.  Abayomi Arigbabu while declaring the workshop open in Abeokuta, said the essence of the training was to get the best out of the teaching force and broaden their horizons.

Arigbabu noted that the training was in tandem with the sixth pillar of Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) which is Teachers' Welfare, enjoining participants to keep abreast of innovations, be versatile in their approach and ready to embrace changes in the profession.

The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, disclosed that the Ministry would support recognised Subjects Associations to achieve their missions and visions, aimed at improving education in the State.

"I want to implore Subject Teachers' Associations to have a formidable and stabilised team for a strong collaboration with the government, as we are planning to revive the e-content lesson delivery for a desired education development", he said.

Underscoring the purpose of the event, the Director of Education, Department of Curriculum Development and Evaluation, Mrs. Mary Akinola-Okereafor, represented by her deputy, Mr. Gbenga Kikisuhu, advocated for a policy that would engender plan and better ways to draw validated test items towards achieving the standard use instrument, such as, knowledge, application, comprehension, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

In his lecture, the resource person, Dr. Taiwo Onabamiro, explained that Taxonomy is a hierarchical framework that classified educational objectives and skills into six levels of complexity, such as, ability to remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate and create, noting that failure to do such could lead to limited cognitive engagement, inadequate preparation for challenges and narrow assessment of learning.

Appreciating government for the workshop, Kafilat Bolarinwa from African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta and Mr. Kazeem Mojoyinola from Abeokuta Grammar School, said the workshop was a systematic engagement to enable them maximise new ideas in the teaching profession.
