NANS President Assures MAPOLY, Other Tertiary Institutions Of Cordial Relationship On Campuses





National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has assured the authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic  (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and other tertiary institutions in the country of cordial relationships, so as to  ensure a crisis free academic session on campuses 

National President of NANS, Comrade Pedro Chibuzo Obi accompanied by Senate President of the association, Comrade Elvis Segun Ekundina, MAPOLY Students Union Government's President, Comrade Hezekiah Adeola Babatunde, NANS, Ogun JCC Chairman,Comrade Adeyanju Francis Experience and other top leaders , gave the assurance during his visit on Friday to management of the Institution at its campus on Ojere, Abeokuta which according to him, is part of the ongoing familiarization tour of the  new leadership of the apex students body to various tertiary institutions across the country


He explained that the purpose of such  familiarization tour was to meet with the management of tertiary institutions and  resolve amicably, issues affecting students, particularly their  welfare on campuses before escalation of such matters  which might be more difficult to handle, leading to loss of time for students to have meaningful academic activities for themselves on campuses

"We are here to appreciate what the management of MAPOLY under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, has been doing for students, we decided to visit various campuses since elected as National President of NANS in December, 2023, to prevent crisis and establish cordial relationship between Students Union Governments and management of tertiary institutions with main aim of minimizing crisis on our campuses", Pedro stated 




Responding, Rector of the institution, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji who acknowledged the key role played by Governor Dapo Abiodun in ensuring that MAPOLY regained its status as one of the leading polytechnics in the country, after the being stagnated for two years between 2017 and 2019 by the education policy of the immediate past administration in the state, assured NANS leadership of commitment of the management of the 45 year-old  polytechnic to sustenance of its rich tradition of academic excellence which had produced the likes of former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and current Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Shakirat Madein  amongst others high quality products 

On students expected to be mobilized for next batch of corps members into the National Youths Service Corps(NYSC), he promised that some of the students would be mobilized for the first batch in the coming week

"We have put in place structure to ensure smooth running of academic calendar , we have not less than 100 PhD holders academic staff , if not for the regulations of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) , we have the capacity to run Bachelor Degree in Technology (B.Tech) , we are focusing on skill development programmes as additional certification for our students here on completion of their academic programmes ", Odedeji stated 

The Rector accompanied by his deputy, Dr.(Mrs) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, Bursar, Mr.Fatai Yekini , Director of Students Affairs, Dr. Amos Kolawole and other principal officers, added that the newly constructed Skill Development Centre was well equipped with the N30million fund  from TETFUND, to train students in additional vocational skills in plumbing, weldering and repairs of GSM phones while the polytechnic in partnership with CISCO and Huawei  run  Information Communication Technology (ICT) programmes to provide its students with the required digital training  


Also speaking, the Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Elewodalu called for more cordial relationship between the management of MAPOLY and leadership of NANS to sustain the existing understanding with the students community on the campus 

Other student leaders on the visit included National Association of Ogun State Students President, Comrade Kehinde Thomas, Ogun State Stakeholders Forum Chairman, Comr, Kehinde Damilola Simeon and Ogun State Stakeholders Secretary General, Ogunrobi Oluwagbemileke
