Lobi, Remo Maintain Top Positions As Heartland Woes Worsen After First Round In NPFL




Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Remo Stars of Ikenne-Remo have maintained their first and second positions with 36 and 35 points respectively as woes of bottom placed Heartland of Owerri worsened, after conclusion of first round of matches on Sunday in the Nigeria Premier Football League 

Suur's 23rd minute goal ensured that Lobi Stars secured maximum three points against sixth placed Plateau United of Jos with 31points in a week 19 match played in Makurdi while two goals from Akorli and Akinyele in the 10th and 63rd minutes gave Remo Stars the lead against visiting Abia Warriors currently in the ninth position with 26 points who  later reduced the tally through Megwo in the 69th minute of the match played at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo


Defending champions Enyimba International of Aba secured a vital 2-1 win against homeside, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, to move to the third position with 32points while the Oluyole Warriors are occupying 11th position with 23points

The woes of Heartland of Owerri worsened after the exit of Coach Kenedy Boboye as they fell to homeside Kano Pillars who defeated them 2-1 to occupy filth position with 32 points while the Naze Millionaires are still struggling at the bottom of the table with just 16points with an outstanding match to play

Fourth placed Doma United of Gombe with 32 points and  Rivers United of Port-Harcourt currently in the 14th position with 21 points with five outstanding matches to be played, ended their encounter in a one-all draw

In Benin-city, seventh placed Bendel Insurance with 30points compounded the position of Sport Lagos with a 3-1 which dropped the noisy Lagos side to 17th position within relegation zone with just 18points 

Katsina United  in the eight position with 27points and 16placed Niger Tornadoes with 21 points settled for a goal less draw in Minna while Enugu Rangers are in the tenth position with 25 points after their lone-goal loss to homeside, Akwa United of Uyo who are currently in the 15th position with 21points 

Kwara United of Ilorin are occupying 13th position with 22points after their  lone-goal win against visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure currently in the 12th position with 22points and better goals difference while Bayelsa United of Yenegoa on the road settled for a one-all draw with Gombe United as  both teams are still swimming in a relegation water in the 18th and 19th positions with 18points each
