A Non-Governmental Organization, Ireede Grassroots Foundation based in Ogun State has lauded the recently approved N683.4billion intervention fund for public tertiary institutions by the Federal Government of Nigeria, urging Ogun State Government to emulate such initiative, by increasing its monthly subventions to the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Tai Solarin University of Education Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, Omu-Ijebu and other four ICT Polytechnics in Itori, Igbesa, Sapaade and Ijebu-Igbo
Edu-Biznews recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the intervention fund as announced last Thursday by the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFUND) Sonny Echono who each of the federal universities would get N1.9billion, polytechnics to receive N1.1billion each while N1.3billion was voted for each of the Colleges of Education
Founder of the foundation, Hon. Funmilayo Ireede-Oginni who commended President Tinubu for such intervention to support infrastructural development of public tertiary institutions, tasked Governor Dapo Abiodun to do same, by increasing the monthly subventions to the Ogun State Government owned tertiary institutions who have hiked tuition fees payable by their respective students as a result of high cost of running the Institutions

The Ireede Grassroots Foundation who has been supporting the education of the less privileged students in the state, pleaded with the government to be more alive to its social responsibility,by ensuring proper funding of its tertiary institutions to discourage them from charging exorbitant tuition fees that would be difficult for brilliant students from poor and average homes to afford
The foundation who also lauded the intention of the Federal Government to ensure the implementation of the students Loan Scheme to provide credit facility for qualified students to enjoy uninterrupted education in public tertiary institutions, stressed the need for the government at all levels to see proper funding of public tertiary institutions as one of basic responsibilities
Ireede-Oginni who is also the proprietoress of Future Promise Group of Schools Abeokuta, said her foundation would continue to support the education of children from less privileged homes and empower talented young Nigerians in various fields of human endeavours
