Ogun Revenue Agency Seeks Support Of Residents To Grow IGR

Taxable adults in Ogun State have been called upon to support the drive to grow the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), by embracing voluntary payment of appropriate taxes, as and when due.

Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, made the call while defending his Agency's budget of over N100bn before members of the House of Assembly, at the Assembly’s complex in Abeokuta.

Olaleye said citizens' support for the present administration could only be manifested when they voluntarily pay their taxes, to enable government embark on developmental projects that would benefit them, calling for profitable ideas, especially in areas that had not been harnessed to grow the IGR.

While pledging the readiness of the members of Assembly to help OGIRS achieve the set target and surpass it, Hon. Tella Babatunde, representing Abeokuta North Constituency, enjoined the Chairman to initiate Bills to the house for passage, to enhance the agency’s performance.

The Chairman and his team were commended for the achievements recorded so far, tasking them to work harder in the coming year, to boost the IGR without relying much on federal allocation.

The latest report by the Economic Confidential rated Ogun as next to Lagos among the top six economic most viable States in Nigeria

The State and Lagos are also rated as the two states that can survive without allocation from the Federation Account
