Nigeria's premier tertiary institution, Yaba College of Technology Lagos will be awarding Diplomas and Certificates to 7,717 graduating students for the 2021/2022 academic session including 254 of them with distinction grade
Rector of the college, Dr.Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul who made this known on Thursday at a press conference marking the 35th convocation of the institution , also revealed that Fellowship awards would be conferred on Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, wife of former governor of Lagos State,Lady Christine Doja Otedola and pioneer leader of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu for their numerous contributions to the development of the country
"This year, the College is graduating a total of Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventeen (7,717) students. Two Hundred and Fifty-Four (254) of these students got distinction. One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Three (1,893) students are graduating in Upper Credit division while Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty (3,940) students are graduating in Lower Credit and One Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty (1630) are in the Pass grade", he stated
"Furthermore, the College will be conferring fellowship awards on three outstanding Nigerians at the 35th Convocation Ceremony. They are :Lady Christine Doja Otedola Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu is Excellency, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni"
The 7th Rector of the college added that activities marking the convocation ceremony would kick start this Friday, 17th of November, 2023 with Jumat service at the college's temporary site while Interdenominational Church Service will be holding on Sunday, 19th of November at Yusuf Grillo Auditorium by 4:00pm
The convocation lecture according to him, will hold on Tuesday, 21st of November at Yusuf Grillo Auditorium by 11:00am, with the Chief of Staff to the President, Right Honourable Olufemi Gbajabiamila deliverying the lecture titled "Empowering Nigerian Youths in the Present Day Economy", under the chairmanship of the Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio
He said that the lecture would be followed with a fellows' night holding on Wednesday at Ijakadi Hall, Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos by 6:00pm under the Chairmanship of Hon. Justice Isola A. Olorunnimbe, a Retired Judge, Lagos State High Court before ending the activities with convocation holding on Thursday at Philip Adegbile Sports Complex Time by 10:00am.
