Professionals in taxation have been charged to ensure economic activities that have not been appropriately captured in the tax net should be harnessed to improve the revenue generation drive of the State.
The Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Olugbenga Olaleye gave this charge in Abeokuta while playing host to the Executive members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Mowe District.
Olaleye said, ‘’A lot of economic activities that have revenue potentials are left untapped in the country and the earlier they are harnessed, the more revenue that will be made available for government's use’’.
He submitted that payment of appropriate taxes was critical and remains the only sustainable source to run any government, adding that while other sectors generate revenue for the government, they were not as sustainable as Tax.
Similarly, the Chairman, CITN Mowe District, Mr. Olayemi Ajiboye commended OGIRS for its support of the association and for the various innovations towards meeting the revenue target of the State government, pledging members’ readiness to support the government in expanding its tax net.
