Ogun Assembly Pleads With TASUED, MAPOLY, Others To Reduce Tuition Fees

Ogun State House of Assembly has  pleaded with various managements of the State-owned tertiary institutions, including Tai Solarin University of Education,(TASUED) Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta to reconsider the plight of parents, especially the indigent students by ensuring further reduction of the recently hiked tuition fees.

The Speaker of the house, Right Hon. Olakunle Oluomo made the plea  while responding to the submission of the Minority Leader and member representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Adeleye who raised the issue under Personal Explanation during a planary session held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Acknowledging the adverse effects of the economic challenges being faced by parents, the Speaker noted that it was important for the Heads of the tertiary institutions to show more compassion and empathy by allowing the new fees wear human face, so as not to put the students on the disadvantage.

He explained that though the institutions might have the compelling need to increase their fees to meet their pressing needs in view of the high rate of inflation but the fees should be affordable.

Earlier in his presentation, Hon. Adeleye had reported the recent protest by the students of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) following the announcement of increment of school fees by the management, pleading that the Assembly wade into the matter with a view to ensuring a reduction of the hiked fees.

Edu-Biznews recalled that the one of the institutions, TASUED last week during press conference for the just concluded joint convocation ceremonies , announced almost 40percent cut in the recent hike of its tuition fees
