German Agency Assures Ogun Govt Of Continuous Support For Technical/Vocational Education

A German Agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has assured Ogun State Government of its maximum collaboration and support for Technical and Vocational Education, towards ensuring skills development for better productivity among the youths in the state 

The team leader, German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Skills Development for Youth Employment, (SKYE) Dr. Detlef Berth gave the assurance in Abeokuta, during the courtesy visit of the organisation to the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, saying the support was to empower the youths and drive the sector to a remarkable height.

Berth said the Agency would continue to throw its weight behind Ogun State, saying over the years, the State had proven to be a leading, and pioneer of new ideas and innovations when it comes to Technical and Vocational Education(TVET), among other States in the federation,

Responding, Commissioner in the Ministry, Prof. Arigbabu attributed the notable achievements of the sector to the passion of Governor Dapo Abiodun, towards restoring the legacy of education in the State.

Arigbabu explained that the first step taken by the Governor was to declare a State of emergency in the education sector, including Technical and Vocational Education, in order to systematically reposition it and make the State reclaim its feat as the best in the academic sector

The Commissioner explained further that the digital platform Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) introduced with Six Pillars, such as Curriculum engineering and re-engineering Management; Technology Integration; Revenue Funding, Infrastructure and Welfares’ had drastically improved the sector, made teaching and learning attractive, conducive and desirable.

Arigbabu said, "There is a need to take a very pragmatic action towards repositioning the sector which made the Ministry come up with the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda to resuscitate education, including Technical and Vocational Education from the epileptic condition as it was before the present administration came on board".    

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye appreciated GIZ for its cooperation, support and collaborative effort, saying it is yielding the desired result.

Similarly , the Acting Executive Secretary, Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, applauded the Giz/SKYE team for their commitment in the areas of developing and equipping youths with skills needed in the labour market, ensuring that there would be more synergies between the State government and the team to achieve a feat in technical education.

Speaking, the State Coordinator, GIZ/SKYE, Mr. Ibrahim Aliu called for more deliberations between the international agency and TVET, in order to break more grounds for skills acquisitions in the State.
