Expert , Olowu Endorse Relaunched PR Primus Magazine.. Recommend Copies For Practitioners, Students

A Public Relations Expert and Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Chief (Dr.) Fassy Yusuf and Olowu Of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom Oba(Prof) Saka Adelola Matemilola have given their respective endorsement to  the high quality of the newly relaunched Nigeria's foremost Public Relations journal, PR Primus Magazine, describing it as a must read for practitioners and students of Mass Communication or journalism across the country

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Information, Youth and Sports who reviewed the latest edition of the magazine recently in Abeokuta, identified some of the features contained in the magazine  which makes it an interesting reading for readers

Similarly the Olowu, Oba Matemilola appreciated the industry and professionalism put into the repackaging of the magazine, recommending it to the general public

Chief Yusuf during the review noted some of the qualities of the Chief Executive Officer of the magazine, Mr. Akin Okudero, whom he described as not only as a Fellow of NIPR but a professional known to him for over thirty years who has continued to display uncommon dexterity, commitment, professionalism and excellence in the practice of Public Relations

He urged young professionals in the practice to embrace such attributes of Okudero

His resilience, sagacity, industry, doggedness, fastidiousness, and positivity are awe-inspiring. I commend these attributes to the younger generation of and potential public relations practitioners. We need the likes of Akin Okudero to advance the frontiers of not only public relations, but many other professions and endeavours in the country.

Here are the detailed  comments of the reviewer of the magazine

"PR Primus magazine is not coming out for the first time. Rather, its current outing or edition has shown tremendous hard work, great packaging, creativity and a deep commitment to growing the public relations profession. Albeit, the magazine did not caption the photograph used on the front cover, those of us who know the person are aware that the person occupying the front page is no other person than the newly elected President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku"

" The editorial decision is apt and desirable, and as well as the bold and captivating headline, NIPR: Quo Vadis? . . . members mull roadmap. It is well planted on top of President Ike Neliakus photograph. By the way, Quo Vadis, is a Latin phrase meaning Where are you going? Or Whither goest thou? It alludes to a New Testament verse, John 13:36. It is used to express a sense of direction, purpose or progress.

"If we juxtapose this with the current status of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, we can conveniently ask which way is the institute going after the election that brought in the Ike Neliaku-led council. Like many others, I am convinced beyond any iota of doubt that the institute is regaining its bearing and it is being recalibrated. This is the new era of the institute"

"The front-page titles of other stories or articles inside the pages include Limit of propaganda and the limitlessness of public relations, Ignore 4th, 5th estates of the realm at your peril, and Editorial: Curtailing quackery. Others are Epistles of Anthony Kila, and Nigeria will win next AFCON"

"The Okudero-led editorial team has a three-dimensional vision, to wit: to expand the frontiers of public relations knowledge and practice; to enhance result-oriented stakeholders relations; and to propagate creativity, innovation and resourcefulness. Invariably, the team has set agenda for the magazine"

"This is commendable. Page 4 of the current edition talks about The beginning might be rough crafted by the Publisher, Akin Okudero. It is a testimonial that nothing good comes easy. Readers will benefit from the unassailable knowledge of one of the prides of public relations profession, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, FNIPR, who writes on the Limit of propaganda and the limitlessness of public relations. Readers and public relations professionals are enjoined to read and digest this piece.

"Nigeria at 63: Harnessing the gains in our diversity, is anchored by Egwu Ben Obasi, a public affairs analyst. Curtailing quackery in public relations practice is apt. This must be achieved. We also have a story titled, HM King Charles III bids farewell to Nigerian Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola".

"Dare Folarin thinks deeply about what the future holds for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations with the entrance of the Ike Neliaku-led council, followed by a story Africa must engage in growth of leaders to rise again- NIPR President. Coming out again is the Catharsis with Dare Folarin titled Reducing humongous ROI (Return On Investments) on politics.

" The political class and indeed, Nigerian stakeholders should digest this piece. Epistles of Anthony Kila  The dark side of the light, is another compelling piece. There are Ogun and Lagos States stories, and the Tony Elumelus leadership principle."

This reviewer writes on The fourth and fifth estates of the realm in public relations. It is an expose on the role of these indispensable estates in public relations. We surely cannot wink in the dark and expect others to see us! There are other stories including those on the federal government synergy with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations on sustainable environment; Sak-Nigerian Community celebration (the country should have been stated, for those who do not know), get-rich-quick syndrome: who is to blame?, the seven icons that bag 2023 Your image awards, the humorous short articles of Oluwaseun Boye (Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of NIPR), and from a public relations intern, Gloria Ibikunle.

"The Arts page features Prince Yemisi Shyllon, a unique Nigerian that I share many things in common with., and No to ostentatious living amidst hardship, apparently directed to the political class. Also captured in the Sports column of the magazine is a story captioned Nigeria will win next AFCON"

"Finally, there is a coverage of the 2023 Your Image Awards. There are seven veritable awardees. These are the Outstanding Public Relations Icon of the Yaer, going to His Highness, Oba (Dr.) Olufemi Adewunmi Ogunleye, also a lawyer and senior journalist; the Public Relations Beacon Award that goes to an icon, Chief Yomi Badejo-Okusanya; Temitope Margaret Oguntokun, who clings Outstanding Public Relations professional of the Year; and the extraordinary Eddy Aina, who bags the Role Model Award."

Others are the Lifetime Achievement Award that goes to Mathematical Ambassador (Dr.) Olusegun Patrick Odegbami; my successor in office, Chief Bukola Olopade who is to be conferred with Corporate Social Responsibility (Sports) Award; and the Outstanding and Visionary Association in Cutting Edge Corporate Governance to be awarded to the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-owned companies (SSASCGOC). The profiles of the seven awardees are also given. The distinguished personalities on the PR Primus news platform are also covered by the magazine.

By and large, the magazine is rich in every material sense, and I have no reservation is recommending it to all and sundry.  Meanwhile, the publisher should endeavour to get ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) for the magazine. And, if it already has, it should be included. It is a requirement of the publishing law. May I also enjoin the magazine to concentrate its attention on public relations and adjunct disciplines. There should be no distraction.

"I say unequivocally that the cover price of N2,500.00 is not too much considering the hyperinflation in the country vis-à-vis the cost of magazine production", the reviewer concluded
