Akpabio, Barau Emerge As New Senate President, Deputy



Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged as the Senate  President of the 10th National Assembly after defeating Senator Abdul’aziz Yari from Zamfara State from North West Nigeria

The Akpabio who is the annointed candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 63 voted as against the former governor of Zamfara who scored 46 votes during inauguration of the tenth Senate  on Tuesday inside the hallow chamber of the National Assemby in Abuja 

The former Senate Minority Leader and two-term ex-governor  of Akwa-Ibom  becomes the first South-Southerner to be elected President of the Senate in the political history of the country 

Similarly Senator Jibrin Barau, another choice of the APC  emerged as Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly with out being opposed 

Senator Dave Umahi from Ebonyi State had  nominated Senator Barau as Deputy Senate President and read his citation after which the nominee accepted the nomination.

The Clerk of the Red Chamber who later called for  further nominations with no response from the floor, then declared Senator Jibrin Barau as Deputy Senate President unopposed.

Senator Barau was thereafter sworn in as Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
