Olowu, Others Charge Obinrin Owu Abeokuta To Brace Up For New Challenge Of Empowering More Women





The Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta kingdom, Oba(Prof.) Adelola Matemilola, a university don, (Prof.) Olufunmilayo Braide and Balogun Erunmu-Owu, Chief Ekundayo Opaleye  have charged the pioneer leadership of the recently inaugurated Abeokuta Region of Obinrin Owu, to brace up for the challenges of training and empowering more women to set up their businesses for the socio-economic development of the kingdom

Oba Matemilola who gave the charge over the weekend during the inaugural meeting of  Obinrin Owu Abeokuta Region and induction of its leadership held at the Olowu's  Palace in Oke-Ago Owu Abeokuta, pledged to mobilize other traditional rulers within his domain to morally and financially support the skills acquisition and empowerment activities of the foremost women wing of the Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP) 




The Olowu was full of praises for the President of Obinrin Owu, Chief (Mrs) Jolaoluwa Opaleye, who is the Faderera of Owu Kingdom for championing the crusade of empowering Owu women across Nigeria, urging the newly inaugurated executive committee of the Abeokuta Region of the women group to emulate her leadership qualities of sustaining the growth of the Obinrin Owu in the country




Also charging them, Prof.Braide who inaugurated the new executive members and Chief Opaleye, a former president of RUOP who initiated the establishment of Obinrin Owu, stressed the need for them to be courageous and move the women folks to a greater height by consolidating on achievements recorded so far since 2018 till date






Those inaugurated as members of the Obinrin Owu Abeokuta Region include Mrs Risikatu Abudu as coordinator, Princess Adejoke Adepegba(Deputy Coordinator),
Mrs Adenike Akinyemi(Secretary),
Mrs Rose Titiloye(Asst Secretary),
Mrs Ranti Ariyo(Financial Secretary),
Maria Oladotun(Treasurer),Alhaja Kelani Azeezat (Social Director)
Mrs Wasilat Abudu (Welfare.1)
Adeleye Adedolapo(Welfare 2)
Alhaja Abiodun(Chief whip) and 
Halimat Opeloyeru (PRO) 

Others are ex-Officio members which includes Deaconess Salau Omolola.. (Social culture 1),Alhaja Sholanke Mariam (culture ),Chief Mrs Adesina.. (Training), Mrs Bola Olaogun(Training), Mrs Akinpelu,Fasasi Abidemi and Fatimo Abiodun









The monarch's Oloris (wives ) Adijat and Aminat and other members of Council of Oloris within Owu-Abeokuta kingdom also showered encomium on the Faderera of Owu Kingdom for the Initiative which has continued to empower more women to set up their businesses after undergoing various vocational training in soap making, producing of Kampala, tailoring, hairdressing amongst others to set up their businesses

They also expressed their committment to sustain the activities of the Obinrin Owu, an affiliate of ROUP for more women including wives and daughters of Owu Abeokuta to benefit from the skills acquisition and empowerment programmes of the group


















President of Obinrin Owu, Chief (Mrs) Jolaoluwa Opaleye who appreciated the support of Olowu and  other royal fathers as well as their Oloris(wives) and high chiefs within the Owu- Abeokuta, said numerous Owu women across the country had continued to benefit from various take off grants to support the growth of their respective businesses while others are beneficiaries of skills acquisition programmes  in various trades and vocation including soap making, Kampala making, beads making, hairdressing, growing and packaging of local rice  ,tailoring amongst others, since the establishment of the women group

She explained that the newly inaugurated executive committee would be in-charge Owu communities in Abeokuta, Ifo, Ewekoro, Akiale and ,Aiyetoro saying others  in Oyo, Osun and Kwara States will soon be inaugurated for smooth administration of activities of Obinrin Owu in the country




The Faderera revealed that   a foundation had been set up to attract financial support from prominent Nigerians and corporate organizations to fund  the activities of Obinrin Owu in the country, saying the major event will hold in December, this year

Mother of the Olowu, Olori of the immediate past Olowu, Bosun Dosunmu ,  Justice (Mrs) Yetunde Adewolu, some of the high chiefs including the Akogun of Owu, Ishola Akinsipo, the Oganla of Owu, Johnson Olu-Fatoki , Iyalode of Owu represented by Asiwaju Iyalode in their seperate goodwill messages lauded the success story so far of Obinrin Owu
