Ogun State Government has expressed its readiness to adequately implement the 2023 export plan, build on the improved ambiance and existing infrastructure, and further boost non-oil export.
The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe made this known while receiving the South West Regional Coordinator, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Akintunde Folorunsho in her Office in Abeokuta
She stated that the government’s determination on the plan would help entrepreneurs optimise the cassava and cashew value chains for exportation.
Longe noted that the present administration would work in partnership with relevant government agencies and private sector players to educate stakeholders and create awareness on the various export opportunities that abound in the State in view of the Agro-cargo Airport, Afrexim Quality Assurance Center as well as the Special Agro-Processing Zone(SAPZ).
The Commissioner said ‘’the various infrastructural projects, especially the Agro-cargo Airport will help agricultural product exporters export their products seamlessly at a quick turnaround time’’.
She added that the State had made progress on promoting processed cassava for exportation through the ‘One State One Product’ programme of the NEPC, while efforts to adequately utilise the cashew processing machine donated to the State by the Council were already yielding positive results.
Longe who commended the effort of the Trade Advisor of the NEPC, Abeokuta Office, Mrs. Franscisca Odegar for her impactful leadership on various capacity-building initiatives, assured that the government would continue to synergise with the export promotion Organisation on land for the construction of a more befitting office.
The Commissioner called on the Council to continue to ensure the State benefit optimally from its various export interventions and project, appealing to the State government to provide all necessary support that would help exporters utilise opportunities abound in the State.
Speaking earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, who doubles as the State Committee on Export Promotion (SCEP) Chairman, said the State was well positioned, considering the various infrastructural projects being executed by the present administration.
In his remark, the South West Regional Coordinator, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Akintunde Folorunsho stated that the Afrexim Bank Quality Assurance Centre and other facilities provided by the government would help exporters gain market access and penetration as well as help the State consolidate its status as Nigeria’s industrial and manufacturing hub.
Folorunsho appreciated the State government’s support for NEPC, adding that the Council would continue to assist businesses and promote an increase in non-oil export
