Ogun State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro has admonished junior officers to take advantage of online training to improve on their skills and avoid spending on frivolities.
Dr. Aigoro gave this admonition in Abeokuta while declaring open a 2-Day capacity building workshop organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, in conjunction with D5 Consulting Limited for newly promoted Junior Staff, with the theme: "Skills for High Performance in the Public Service".
The Head of Service said junior staff should spend their time on self and career development, as well as further their studies to acquire necessary skills that would stand them out in the future, adding that the training was organised to meet specific needs, based on identified gaps, as they would be future management staff.
"Although government will not relent in its efforts to train staff, I must emphasise that it is self development that stands an officer out. As Junior Staff, you have ample time on your hands to further your studies and acquire necessary skills that will stand you out in the future; but rather than spending time on self and career development", he said.
In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, and his counterpart from the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye urged the participants to properly utilise the knowleged gained from the training and have positive change of minds while discharging their statutory duties at their various offices.
Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, assured that the agency would continue to build capacity of officers in relevant areas to enhance their productivity.
In their responses, two of the participant, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogidan from the Ogun State Sports Council and Mr. Bayo Adegboyega from the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, appreciated the State government for the training.
